The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced the resignation of Chief Elections Officer Andrew Mpesi after years of overseeing key electoral reforms.
According to a letter signed by Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja. , Mpesi submitted his resignation letter on May 24 and will officially leave office on August 21, 2026.
“Mpesi will continue working during the three-month notice period while managing a smooth handover process. MEC praised his leadership in constituency boundary reviews, voter registration expansion and implementing electoral legal reforms”.
MEC expresses its sincere appreciation to Mr. Mpesi for his dedicated service, professionalism and invaluable contribution. The Commission also credited Mpesi for helping deliver the successful 2025 General Election.
